The Talmud says
Kol Yisrael aravim zeh b’zeh
(all
Israel is responsible for one another).
What does it mean to belong to a congregational community? It means that all members should be able to turn to each other for help and emotional support. Have you ever received a meal during a time of need? Have you received support during a time of illness or loss? Or perhaps you felt that you would have liked that kind of support from your congregation but you didn’t want to ask, or you didn’t think it was available. The impact of caring gestures can be powerful and life-changing
The PTBE Caring Committee is engaged in three areas:
The Meals Team provides meals to members who are ill as well as to families who are welcoming new babies.
The Visiting Team visits members in the hospital or at home and also members who are homebound.
The Bereavement Support team offers comfort to members who have lost a loved one.
If you or someone you know might want the support that the Caring Committee can provide, please call Lolli Freedman in the
temple office, 341-7701, or email her at lfreedman@ptbe.org.
If you would like to be a volunteer on the Caring Committee, please contact Ellen Saliman at 344-6750 or jsaliman@earthlink.net. |
