Join us for our monthly garden workdays
Please join Rodfei Tzedek for our MONTHLY garden workdays on the 4th Sunday of every month. We've planted organic food crops that are harvested and donated to Samaritan House after each work session.
Our next workday has been postponed to Sunday, May 7 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Our PTBE Community Garden continues to produce fresh vegetables for our neighbors at Samaritan House. We are always looking for more volunteers with a green thumb who would like to help. If interested, please email Jerry Saliman or Craig Hoffman.
NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. We have gloves for you to borrow and all the equipment. We'll do some weeding, some planting, and some harvesting. Expect to stay about an hour. Just bring water, sunscreen, and a hat if it's sunny and warm.
We always have a great time! Contact Jerry Saliman or Craig Hoffman with any questions.
Our Community Garden is blooming! Thank you to the Coalition for Clean Air for helping us to green our congregation’s outdoor space and contribute to Clean Air Day. Our partners from Each Green Corner were instrumental in our success. The photos from our October 2021 launch event can be found here. We had 45 people, ages 4-75 at our event. Families, couples, and individuals participated, including Each Green Corner staff. Rabbis Darryl and Lisa, Executive Director Kate Lauzar and Temple President Roger Feigelson also participated!
We took 1500 square feet of our building’s outdoor space that had been unused and neglected and turned it into a beautified garden to enable carbon sequestration, canopy coverage and a permanent source of sustainable urban agriculture. We divided our garden into 3 areas: (a)vegetable beds, (b)vegetable boxes, and (c)a fruit tree/pollinator grove.
Highlights included:
Watching the youngest kids get involved in planting the seedlings
Helping one of our recent bat mitzvah students plant a pomegranate tree she received as a gift and donated to the garden
Seeing teens, tots and adults working (hard!) alongside each other toward a common goal
Being amazed at how much change occurred in 4 short hours when many hands combine to work together!
