Judaism begins with the Torah. It is equivalent to the Constitution in the United States. Just as laws to apply the Constitution to society, Rabbis developed the Talmud to apply Judaism to everyday life. It provides laws, stories and traditions for every aspect of life from criminal and civil law, marriage and divorce, prayer and Tzedakah, farming and harvests. The Talmud is the standard upon which modern Jewish life is based. We will explore the Talmud’s insights about civic society and healthy debate; when to impeach a leader and qualities of leadership, and #MeToo and grievous sins.
